ARMOREL— In the battle between the Lady Tigers, Maynard prevailed again but this time the Lady Tigers of Armorel kept it within striking distance throughout most of the game.
Maynard defeated Armorel 65-56 and both teams are automatically in the regional tournament due to there being only four teams in the conference.
MHS jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first quarter and led 29-20 at the half.
Maynard came out of the half with another 17-point quarter but AHS only trailed by 13 points heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Armorel was hot from the line as they went 10 for 14 from the charity stripe. AHS’s late push helped win the fourth quarter, 23-19, but the deficit was to large to overcome.
Armorel was led by senior forward Ayreille Appleton and sophomore Mayson Carr with 15 points apiece. Junior Abby Kennedy and freshman Abby Simmons also chipped in 10 points apiece.
Armorel will be the fourth seed in regionals and will most likely face the Norfork Lady Panthers, who are ranked number one in 1A girls basketball. The Lady Panthers are 30-4 overall on the season.
