Buffalo Island Central completed a regular season sweep of rival Riverside, defeating the Rebels 50-38 Tuesday night at Lake City. Buffalo Island Central completed a regular season sweep of rival Riverside, defeating the Rebels 50-38 Tuesday night at Lake City.

Riverside took a 10-9 lead after the first quarter when Gage Crews dropped in a short jumper on the baseline. The second stanza belonged to the Mustangs. Eli Cordero drained a three pointer at the 6:06 mark to tie the game at 14-all. Riverside took a brief two-point edge on its next possession when Ethan Boatman powered his way for an inside bucket.

Devin Pemberton’s three-point play put the Mustangs on top 17-16 at the 4:58 mark. Riverside regained the lead for the last time on a 10-foot pullup jumper by Steven Stroud. The Mustangs closed the half by canning three consecutive triples. Taylor Gipson started the BIC three-point

barrage, followed by another long-range bomb from Blaine Wildy.

Cordero’s triple just before the halftime buzzer sounded gave BIC a 26-18 lead at intermission.

The Mustangs stretched their advantage to double digits in the third period, leading by as many as 11, 35-24, with 1:50 left in the quarter.

Riverside’s Brennen Laird sliced the BIC lead to eight with a long three pointer to close out the frame. The Mustangs began the fourth quarter with an 8-2 run and maintained a double digit lead the rest of the way in picking up the win. Pemberton paced BIC with 17 points while Wildy hit double digits with 15. Tate Schooley had nine, Cordero contributed six while Gibson added three points. The Mustangs finished 13-20 from the foul stripe, including nine of 12 in the fourth quarter. BIC canned five three pointers. Crews topped Riverside with 11 points while Stroud and Boatman added 10 points apiece. Laird scored three while Traven Weaver and A.J. Chamness pitched in two points each. Riverside sank six of eight free throws and hit two three pointers.

In the junior high game, BIC outlasted Riverside 39-32. Dawson Stewart paved the way for the Mustangs, scoring 11 points while Caden Whitehead had 10. Brayden Carmichael contributed six, Mikey Brown posted four, Caden Howard netted three while Luis Reta and Max McCord chipped in two points apiece. Trae Barnes and J.M. Shinall paced the Rebels with nine points apiece while Carl Gallapoo scored seven. Stanford Robinson tallied four while Easton Hatch added three points.
