Last week I got the wonderful opportunity to visit New York City with my mother and younger brother as a sort of combined Christmas gift for all of us.
The trip was amazing and we all had a wonderful time taking in the city and seeing all the sights we could see. I’ve actually visited NYC once before a few years ago through a trip at Arkansas Northeastern College; however, there is so much to do there that I think one could visit it 20 times and still find interesting things to do in Manhattan alone.
The city is such a stark contrast to anything we have around here and is honestly a stark contrast from most of the other cities that I’ve visited.
It seemed like things were always going in New York and while at times it wasn’t overly crowded, it was always busy. I know that makes me sound like a small town country boy shocked by the hustle and bustle of the big city, but it is more that I am fascinated by it than surprised.
One of the best parts of the trip was getting to go see “To Kill A Mockingbird” at the Schubert Theatre.
The play and cast was amazing and getting to see Jeff Daniels play Atticus Finch was an experience all its own.
We were also lucky enough to get to see “Avenue Q” which is a comedic musical that parodies Sesame Street. Sadly, it will no longer be showing after the spring of this year after running for 15 years. I’m just glad I got to see it before that happened.
I often don’t like to talk about my traveling experiences because I don’t want to come off as someone who is bragging about what they have gotten to experience in life, but I do want to say something.
If ever you have the opportunity to visit somewhere that you believe will be vastly different from your norm, you need to take it. I’m not saying that Arkansas or this community isn’t a great place to live, but travelling and experiencing different cultures will make you grow as a person and we could all use a little growing.
