HOXIE— The Gosnell Pirates rebounded in their second round matchup against the Hoxie Mustangs, Friday, after a tough loss in their opening round game.
The Pirates destroyed the host Mustangs, 73-33, Friday afternoon as the five Pirates scored in double figures.
The Pirates were led by Coty Keene with 13 points, four assists, one rebound and a steal. Jordan Lewis chipped in 11 points, six rebounds and a steal. Brett Barbaree and Brayden Burcham also added 10 points apiece.
The Pirates will face the Maynard Tigers on Saturday.
Gosnell Lady Pirates 48, Hillcrest 38
HOXIE— The Gosnell Lady Pirates defeated the Hillcrest Lady Screaming Eagles, 48-38, Friday morning in the second round of the Hoxie Mustang Classic.
Lady Pirates senior center Kaylee Miller must have recovered after being sick for the Lady Pirates first round matchup against the Maynard Lady Tigers as she had a game-high 20 points against the Lady Screaming Eagles.
The Lady Pirates led by a point at the half but pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat the Lady Screaming Eagles, 48-38.
Senior Destiny Smith-Batchelor chipped in 11 points and classmate Amber McClurg added eight points.
The Lady Pirates will face McCroy in the third place game on Saturday.

Timbo Tigers 64, Gosnell Pirates 62
HOXIE— The Gosnell Pirates were narrowly defeated in their first round matchup with the Timbo Tigers in an overtime thriller, 64-62.
The Pirates were led by senior guard Jaquon Partee with 17 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Classmate Coty Keene chipped in 10 points, three rebounds, one assist and a steal.
Maynard Lady Tigers 57, Gosnell 22
HOXIE— The Gosnell Lady Pirates were defeated in their first game of the Hoxie Mustang Classic by the Maynard Lady Tigers, 57-22.
The Lady Pirates trailed 33-16 at the half, after trailing by only two points after the first quarter.
The Lady Tigers outscored GHS 18-6 in the second half.
Lady Pirates senior center Kaylee Miller had a rough game as she wasn’t feeling well. Miller scored all four of her points in the second half as she went four-for-six from the charity line. Lady Pirate senior guard Alexus Donnerson led the Lady Pirates with six points. Classmate Alyssa Griffin added five points.
