Last week Buffalo Island Central High School’s boys basketball coach Brandon Ballard was arrested for accusations of computer child pornography. In a statement issued by the district it was stated that Ballard “has been placed on administrative leave with pay based upon this development and in order to investigate the matter further.”

The release also stated, “We understand this may involve communication with a student in another school district.”

According to the release BIC is taking the matter seriously and will be investigating to determine if further action is necessary. Ballard will remain off duty indefinitely and is currently not permitted on campus or around any students. 

According to other news outlets Ballard was incarcerated at the Pike County Sheriff’s office on Tuesday, December 11. When contacted by the CN the Pike County Sheriff’s department stated that they were referring all media to the prosecuting attorney, Jana Bradford. 

Bradford’s office did not return attempts to comment. 

Ballard is a 2005 graduate of BIC, starring in basketball and baseball.

He was a former Mr. Basketball in Arkansas and called the BIC coaching job his “dream job” when hired in March 2017.

Ballard grew up in Leachville and was a four year starter for the Buffalo Island Central Mustangs.His senior year the Mustangs won the Class AA State Championship. 

He also lettered at Arkansas State as a freshman.
