Roy Lee Burroughs
Roy Lee Burroughs, better known as Cotton, of Manila, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, in Jonesboro. Cotton was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Damascus to Jim Ed and Nancy May Burroughs. Cotton retired at age 83 from commercial fishing, a profession he truly loved, and had done for most of his adult life. He was an avid duck hunter and hunted well into his mid 80s. Cotton was a very respected and admired man throughout his community. He was a devoted husband, loving and proud father, and grandfather.
Mr. Burroughs was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Johnston Burroughs, and grandson, Joey Don Taylor.
He leaves behind his four children, Wanda Jo (Donnie) Taylor of Trumann, Gary (Lucia) Burroughs of Scottsdale, Ariz., Lee (Sandy) Burroughs of Trenton, Fla., and Lisa (Ed) Lemke of Armorel. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two brothers, J.C. Burroughs and W.H. Burroughs; one sister, Anna Beth Carpenter, all of Damascus, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at The Sand Springs Baptist Church in Gravesville, with a graveside service, officiated by Ricky Burroughs, at the church's cemetery immediately following.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Taylor, Gary Burroughs, Ed Lemke, Chris Burroughs, J.T. Harris and Todd Wright.
