Melbourne showed why it’s one of the top teams in the state in Class 2A by rolling over Buffalo Island Central 58-10 in senior girls basketball action Friday night at Monette.

The Lady Bearkatz led 17-4 after the first quarter and held BIC scoreless in the second period while bolting to a 46-4 lead at intermission. Melbourne led 48-10 entering the final frame.

Reagan Rapert led Melbourne with 11 points while Hallie Weaver added nine. Thirteen players got in the scoring column for the Lady Bearkatz. Melbourne knocked down nine three pointers on the night.

Morgan James and Brianna Lambert led BIC with three points apiece while Jealynn Cates and Haddyn Hurst added two points each.

In junior high action, Melbourne defeated BIC 35-22. Kenley McCann led the Bearkatz with 11 points.

Lexi Riley paced BIC with seven points. Krystyn Hawkins scored three, Mason Hastings, Kaydence Lambert, Arabella Oliver, Lena Watts and Hallee Wells all chipped in two points apiece while Emily Davis and Chasney Griggry added one point each.

BIC’s junior girls defeated Bay 29-21 Tuesday night on the road. Wells paced the Lady Mustangs with 11 points. Lambert scored six, Riley had five, Davis tallied four while Hawkins added three points.

BIC returns to action Monday night when they travel to Rector before closing the week with a home game against Sloan Hendrix Thursday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex.
