Francisca Monroy de Mendez
Francisca Monroy de Mendez, 72, of Blytheville, passed away at home with her family surrounding her. She was born in Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas (Mexico) on October 4, 1945.
Ms. Mendez was a full-time Pioneer as an active Jehovah’s Witness. She volunteered 70 hours a month preaching from door to door the Good News of God. Her illness brought about is faith strengthening. She proved without question her faith in Jehovah God. She truly lived with the spirit of being a Pioneer until her last breath. She had a single challenge for all her family and friends – “You know what you have to do if you want to see me again.”
Ms. Mendez loved helping others, even if she was tired she would go out of her way to help someone. She raised her 10 children, 2 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Her grandson, Marcos, said, “She taught me how to be a man.” She was very loving and kind.
She had been in the United States for years, but wanted to make sure the family remembers her culture. She insisted that the family speak Spanish. She had a natural green thumb and loved her flower garden. She realized flowers needed more than just sunshine and water, sometimes you have to talk to them!
Her family says she was an amazing cook. She never used recipes or measurements in preparing meals. One of her favorite sayings was “Food is Life.” She was also an excellent seamstress.
She is survived by her 10 children, 33 grandchildren (including her grandson Marcos and his wife Victoria Sierra who were her caregivers), and 12 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening 6:00-8:30 p.m. at Carney Funeral Home, 1505 Byrum Rd, Blytheville AR. Condolences may be offered at carneyfuneralhome.com.
