A special Memorial Day service was held at the Herman Davis Monument in Manila honoring the men and women who sacrificed their lives for their country. A special Memorial Day service was held at the Herman Davis Monument in Manila honoring the men and women who sacrificed their lives for their country.

Arkansas Representative Johnny Rye sang America the Beautiful, Scout Leader April Palmer and Troop 32 presented the Colors for the service held Monday, May 29.

Keynote speaker was Retired Lt. Col. Dave Wallace who spoke from personal experience about fellow veterans who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. Some he spoke of were under his command. The crowd was visibly moved by his heartfelt remembrance of those who never made it home. Wallace, a Leachville resident, currently serves as State Senator.

Retired Lt. Col. Dave Wallace, Vietnam veteran and Arkansas State Senator, accepted the medals of Sgt. Garvin Dill, who was KIA in the Vietnam War. Dill's brother, Ray Dill, also a Vietnam vetearn, donated the medals to the Manila Depot Museum.

Special guests for the event was Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Davis. Mr. Davis is the grandson of Herman Davis, World War I hero.

Greg Roll, Post 197 historian, gave the meaning of the significance of items on a table that honors the memory of POWs, MIAs and those killed in action (KIA).

A special presentation to the Manila Depot Museum was made by Vietnam Veteran Ray Dill. Senator Wallace accepted the medals of Sgt. Garvin Dill (Ray's brother who was killed in action during the Vietnam War).

Mr. Davis toured the Manila Museum after the ceremony where many items belong to Herman Davis are on display.
