Manila School District superintendent resigns

Manila Superintendent Pam Castor submitted her resignation at a special called meeting Thursday, March 8.

Mrs. Castor said it was with mixed emotions she leaves the school that has been a very large part of her life from a student, teacher, principal and superintendent.

Mrs. Castor has accepted a position as director of the Crowley Ridge Educational Service Cooperative.

Mrs. Castor has 39 years with the Mania District serving 11 years in the classroom; 13 years as principal; and 14 years as superintendent.

She has been involved in three major building projects - middle school; Justin Veach Elementary School and the high school which will be ready for the 2018-2019 school year.

Among the services provided by the Cooperative are professional development for teachers, superintendents and principals and it serves as a go between for the Department of Education and school districts.

“It was a difficult decision but I am looking forward to the challenge,” Castor said. “I am leaving on a positive track. My heart is here and always will be. Like I tell the kids, once a Lion, always a Lion. Good things are ahead for the Mania School District. In a way I will still be part of the school in a different role.”

Board members accepted her resignation reluctantly but wished her well and offered their gratitude for the years of dedicated service she has given to the Manila District.

One of the longest serving board members, Johnny McCain (17 years), said what Mrs. Castor has done for the students and school district is priceless.
