Riverside picked up three victories on the diamond last week to move to 3-1 on the young season. The Rebels battered Harrisburg 10-3 Tuesday before doubling up Rivercrest 8-4 Thursday afternoon at Lake City. Riverside closed the week by routing Rector 9-1 Friday at home.

Ryan Austin worked 5 1/3 innings to pick up Tuesday’s victory over the Hornets. Austin gave up three runs, two earned, while scattering five hits. The sophomore right hander fanned seven and walked two. Jacob Thomas pitched the final inning and two thirds, shutting out the Hornets on two hits.

Leadoff hitter Charlie McClure singled, tripled, scored twice and had a pair of RBI to pace the Rebel offense. Izzy Garcia singled and cracked a double while driving in three runs. Justin Berry had a pair of singles, an RBI and scored once while Austin helped his own cause with a pair of singles and a run scored. Speedy Demo Bowers singled, smashed a double, scored once and had an RBI while Grayson Emery doubled in a run and scored once. Keech Wilmoth had an RBI single and scored a pair of runs, Hunter Swaim belted an RBI single and scored a run while Dillon Turner singled and scored once.

McClure was the winner in Riverside’s win Thursday against Rivercrest. McClure worked six full innings, giving up four runs on seven hits. The senior southpaw struck out 11 Colts and issued just one walk. Turner finished the game, pitching one shutout inning, allowing two hits.

Turner pounded out two doubles, scored twice and drove in a run while Garcia blasted a pair of doubles, drove in a run and scored once. Austin had a pair of RBI singles and scored a run, Bowers lashed a two-run single while Swaim had an RBI hit and scored once. Berry singled and crossed the plate twice, Emery had a base knock and scored a run while McClure singled.

Turner was the victor on the mound in Riverside’s eight-run victory over Rector Friday at Lake City. Turner went five innings, giving up one run on just one hit. The senior righty fanned six and walked one batter. Jacob Thomas worked one shutout inning, striking out two, while Garcia closed the game, blanking the Cougars while striking out one and walking one.

Turner helped himself with a pair of singles and an RBI while scoring a run. Garcia cracked an RBI double and scored three times, Austin cranked an RBI single and scored a run while McClure and Swaim both added RBI singles. Berry singled and scored three runs, Bowers singled and scored once while Wilmoth picked up an RBI.

Riverside returns to the diamond Monday with a road trip to Osceola. The Rebels will host Bay Tuesday before entertaining Hoxie Thursday.
