Wednesday night, Mississippi County deputies rescued a missing elderly Batesville, Miss. woman whose vehicle was stuck on a dirt road for more than 24 hours.
Anne Reed, 73, who had last been seen Tuesday afternoon, was found sitting in her 2013 Hyundai Tucson, which was stuck in eight inches of water and mud on SCR 407, according to the police report.
“Lt. (Charles) Brown and Capt. (Morgan) George were able to get Ms. Reed out of the vehicle and assist her in walking approximately 50 yards back to Lt. Brown's patrol truck,” the report said. “Ms. Reed was transported to the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department. There she was checked by the nurse. The nurse advised that she was in good shape. Ms. Reed was given dry clothes by the jail staff and allowed to clean up.”
MCSD contacted the Memphis Police Department, which notified Reed’s family that she had been located.

Her family members arrived at the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to the report.
The car was left in its location because of the extremely muddy conditions. It was recovered by Strop's Towing on Thursday.
“I think they did an outstanding job,” Sheriff Dale Cook said of his deputies, adding they saved the woman’s life.
Around 5:51 a.m. Wednesday, MCSD received a call from the Memphis Police Department regarding the missing woman.
She had last been seen around 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Memphis area by her daughter, Wanda Reed.
“Wanda Reed reported that her mother had left Memphis headed to Batesville, MS,” the report said. “Reports indicate that Wanda called her mother at about (10 p.m. Tuesday). During this conversation, Ms. Reed told her daughter that her car had broken down and she was stuck in the mud.”

Investigators from the Memphis P.D. asked that a deputy from the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department call. Cpl. Carter returned their call and was informed that Reed's phone had been pinged and was in the area of Hwy. 14 and 181 in Mississippi County.
He checked this area and was unable to locate anything. The deputy stated he drove that area for most of the remainder of his shift.

“At about 08:53 Cpl. Coburn was dispatched to the area of Hwy. 61 and SCR 407,” the report said. ‘The Sheriff's Department had received updated information from the Memphis P.D. This information was that the last time they were able to get a ping on Ms. Reed phone was around midnight and that it was located on or near SCR 407. Cpl. Coburn was assisted by Sgts. Sharp and Holifield in checking this area. This area is a gravel road that turns into a dirt field road. During their search of this area visibility was very low due to rain. The road was very muddy and almost impassable.”

Their search of the area was unsuccessful in locating Reed.

“Later on this date Capt. Morgan George received GPS coordinates of the last ping of the phone,” the report said. “Lt. Chuck Brown and Capt. Morgan George drove to this area. After driving .25-.5 miles off the end of the gravel the two were able to locate the 2013 Hyundai Tucson of Ms. Reed’s. Ms. Reed was found sitting in the vehicle. The vehicle was sitting in about eight inches of water and was stuck in the mud.”
