Blytheville High School Interact Club students recently signed a sympathy card that they sent to Stoneman Douglas Interact Club students. Stoneman Douglas students returned to class this week for the first time since the mass shooting that killed 17. Blytheville Rotarians also signed the card. BHS students wrote notes to the Stoneman Douglass students in hopes of providing some comfort. Interact clubs are sponsored by their local Rotary Clubs. Interact gives students ages 12-18 the chance to make a real difference while having fun. Interact clubs carry out service projects that serve their communities, as well as communities around the world. The local Interact Club, which is sponsored by teacher Kristy Brasfield, has been quite active over the last several years. Along with several community projects, the club has raised around $1,400 for water projects in Africa. Two years ago money that the club raised provided the Rainwater Catchment Project at the Essumba Primary School. Last year funds that they raised built the Southeastern Kenya WASH Program (sand dam) in the Kivani community. Rotary Club of Blytheville president Dale Hinson said, “We are proud of our Interact members. They are fine examples of what it means to be Rotarians.”
