GOSNELL — The Gosnell Pirates (10-10, 6-8) fell, 86-61, to a hot-shooting Westside Warriors team Friday night, as the Warriors senior guard Avery Felts dropped a game-high 48 points.
The Pirates held a 17-9 lead after the first quarter, but in the second quarter, Felts scored 14 of his 48 points with two long-range three-pointers to end the first half. The Warriors led 38-28 at halftime.
GHS cut the Warrior lead to seven early in the second half, but Felts answered with another huge quarter, as he added 16 points and a big three-pointer at the buzzer to give WHS a 62-48 lead.
The Pirates tried to climb back, but the Warriors kept a cushion between themselves and the Pirates. Felts finished the quarter with 16 points and he was pulled at the 1:26 mark.
Pirates head coach Kirk Glintborg pulled his starters with 1:26 left in the game also.
Senior guard Brandon Partee led the Pirates with 28 points. M'Kylan Caruthers chipped in 11 points, and Trajan Donnerson added nine points.
The Junior Pirates lost in a nail-biter to the Junior Warriors Friday, 39-36.
Junior Pirate guard T.J. Reed's three-pointer at the buzzer fell just short of tying the game.
Travelle Anderson led the Pirates with 12 points. MarReion Claybrooks chipped in 11 points.
The Pirates will travel to Manila Tuesday as they face one of the top 3A teams in Arkansas, the Manila Lions.
