The Mississippi County Library System is honoring Black History Month this February with a community project titled “What’s Your Dream?”
Inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech, the Library System is inviting all community members to visit a library branch and share their dreams. Entries will be collected throughout the month of February, and will be displayed, along with a photograph of the person whose hopes it represents, in library branches and social media. The library hopes that this project will help community members see the dreams they share and view the system resources as a way to collaborate and realize these dreams together.
The Mississippi County Library System branches will each be highlighting African American authors and history through informational displays. Library personnel are available to help local teachers and community partners gather resources, historical information, and display ideas for classrooms and community events. Be sure to come to a library branch during February, enter the “What’s Your Dream?” project, and learn something new about Black History Month.
