Blytheville police are encouraging residents to stay off the roadway Friday morning.
“It’s slick and it will get slicker,” Police Chief Ross Thompson said around 7 a.m. Friday.
Chief Thompson noted the local streets are coated with ice, and though there have been no collisions, several cars have left the roadway, sliding into ditches.
All local schools closed Friday because of the weather (the Gosnell School District was already closed for teacher inservice).
The Mississippi County courthouses are also closed today (Friday).
The Blytheville Police Department Facebook page said, “Officers are reporting slick road conditions and a few single car accidents in the area where vehicles have slid off the roadway.
We recommend that you stay off the roadways, if you have to be out, leave early for your destination.”
