The Blytheville Planning Commission Board met Tuesday and approved the new multi-purpose building that will be placed on KIPP’s Byrum Road campus.

Brad McLaurin, from the Architectural Firm of WER in Little Rock, presented the plans to the board.

KIPP ‘s Matt Perrin said the plan for the Byrum Road campus is to build out the high school; the building will block the school’s trailers.

“It bothers you to drive past the trailers, I have to go to those trailers everyday,” Perrin said. “We’ve been promising our kids a gym since our inception there. But the Central campus will eventually and hopefully sooner rather than later become pre-k through 6th grade. So we’ve only renovated a chunk of the Central campus and we’ve got 4th through 6th grade there right now and on Byrum, we’ve got 7th through 12th.”

McLaurin noted that the existing parking lot at the school is going to be paved and that the larger parking lot on the north side of the campus, already in existence, will be paved and striped at a later date. He said that both parking lots combined will have a capacity of 193 spaces and the gym will hold 636 people, so all is in ratio and within zoning ordinances for parking for events.
