Manila notched a pair of 3A conference victories last week, defeating Osceola 54-43 Monday night on the road before completing the sweep with a 54-43 win Thursday night at Lion Gym.
Brailey Hampton paced the Lady Lions over Osceola with a team high 16 points. Sydney Adcock and Meg Gifford chipped in 10 points apiece. Shacorreya Weatherspoon led all scorers with 18 points.
Manila held a 14-10 lead after the first break before taking a 27-19 lead into the dressing room at the half. The Lady Seminoles fought back in the third quarter to pull to within 42-39 entering the final frame. Manila outscored Osceola by eight in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Manila took the junior high contest 36-30. Anna Grace Adams led the Lions with 11 points. Madison Hitchcock scored seven, Ashten Wallace netted six, Madison Carruth tallied four while Sadie McDonald and Kassidy Tate chipped in three points each. Olivia May added two points.
Hampton scored 15 points in leading Manila over Harrisburg. Jill Helton had 12 while Gifford pitched in 10. Abby Edwards scored a game high 22 points to lead the Lady Hornets.
In junior high play, Manila roared past Harrisburg 51-30 behind Adams’ 13 points. Carruth, May, Wallace and Sadie Massey all pitched in six points apiece while Hitchcock and McDonald contributed four points each. Tate and Destin Copeland scored three points apiece.
Manila lost in the Gerald Jennings Girls Classic Saturday at Lake City, falling 59-49 to Naylor, Mo. Naylor held a slim 25-23 lead at the half and took a 35-32 advantage into the final period. Naylor pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
The Lady Lions placed four players in double figures, led by Gifford’s 12 points. Adcock and Hampton tallied 11 points apiece while Helton added 10.
Manila returns to action Monday night when they travel to Trumann. The Lady Lions will journey to Rector for a rare Tuesday night game before finishing the week Thursday with a conference clash against Rivercrest at Lion Gym.
