Hoxie celebrated Homecoming by stampeding visiting Manila 55-18 in 3A-3 conference football action Friday night at Mustang Field.
The Mustangs raced to 41-0 lead and held a 48-6 advantage at the half. Hoxie quarterback Chandler Spradlin hooked up with Chance Moore for a 11-yard touchdown strike to give the Mustangs an early 6-0 advantage. After a Manila three and out, Hoxie struck again when Diamani Davis rambled in from eight yards out with 6:00 left in the opening quarter. Davis’ score was set up by Spradlin’s 38-yard run.
Hoxie picked off a Lane Sims pass at the Mustang 29-yard line. Spradlin found Gavin Waldrup on the right sideline for a 71-yard pass and run to up the Hoxie lead to 21-0 at the 4:51 mark. Moore’s recovery in midair of a Logan Hamilton fumble resulted in a 30-yard return for another Mustang score with 4:36 left in the first quarter.
Hayden Riggs scored from eight yards out on Hoxie’s next possession and the two-point conversion gave the Mustangs a 35-0 lead with just 15 seconds left in the first period.
Sims connected with Grant Salzer on a 40-yard pass on the last play of the first quarter, but the Lion receiver was stripped of the ball, resulting in a Manila turnover. The Mustangs increased their lead to 41-0 before Sims put the Lions on the board with an 11-yard touchdown run at the 4:54 mark of the second quarter.
Riggs’ second score of the night gave Hoxie a 48-6 lead at intermission.
Hamilton scored from 14-yards out in the third period, cutting the Mustang lead to 48-12. Braden Brand’s 14-yard touchdown scamper pushed the Hoxie lead to 55-12. Cameron Wilson closed out the scoring on the night with a two-yard touchdown run at the 3:33 mark of the final quarter.
Davis finished with 170 yards rushing on 14 carries and two scores to lead the Mustangs. Spradlin ran for 88 yards and threw for 84 more while Riggs scored twice.
Manila (1-4, 1-1 3A-3) will try to get back on the winning track against winless Corning Friday night at Lion Field.
