Wildcats shut out Junior Lions 14-0

Trumann used a strong defensive effort, coupled with touchdown runs from Chris Webb and Connor McClain, and went on to shutout Manila 14-0 in junior high football action Thursday night at Wildcat Field.

Trumann limited Manila to just 74 yards total offense, including 69 on the ground. Manila ran just 19 plays on the night.

The Wildcats held the Lions on downs to open the game. Taking possession at the Manila 40, Trumann marched into the end zone with a nine-play drive, capped off by Webb’s scamper around right end with just seconds left in the first period. Isrreal Carrillo ran in the two-point conversion to give Trumann an 8-0 lead.

The score remained 8-0 until McClain burst into the end zone on a three-yard quarterback keeper with 3:55 left in the third quarter. The two-point conversion pass fell incomplete.

Manila’s lone scoring threat came late in the third stanza when the Lions drove to the Wildcat 15. But the Wildcat defense stiffened and took over on downs, ending the Manila drive.

Trumann finished the night with 164 total yards, all on the ground. Webb had six carries for 41 yards and a touchdown. Carrillo rushed seven times for 49 yards while Gaven Guy had six carries for 50 yards.

Manila was led by Carter Walker’s three carries for 34 yards. Walker had runs of 13 and 14 yards. Jordan Spray rushed seven times for 26 yards, including a 19-yard sprint, while Zac Morris had seven totes for nine yards.

The win pushed Trumann’s record to 2-0 while the Lions fell to 0-1 on the season.

Manila will open conference play Thursday night at Newport.
