Julia Polston
Julia Polston, 97, of Mountain Home, former longtime Manila area resident, passed from this life Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at the Gassville Therapy and Living Center. She was born in Old Austin, Ark., to the late Walter and Dora Counts Burke and was raised in the Ward and Cabot areas. She was working at the Arkansas Ordnance Ammunitions Plant during World War II when she met and married her late husband, Claude Polston. Following the war they moved to the Milligan Ridge community near Manila and share cropped until they were able to buy their own land. She had worked in several area factories and retired from the Brown Shoe Company in Leachville. In retirement she took great enjoyment from her garden and flowers. She was a former longtime member of the Milligan Ridge Missionary Baptist Church and was a current member of The Bridge Missionary Baptist Church in Mountain Home.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, five sisters and son-in-law Larry "Whiz" Davis.
Survivors include one son, Larry Polston (Diana) of Pittsburg, Kan.; two daughters, Lavella McWilliams (Bud) of Cotter and Faye Davis of Manila.
She also leaves one brother, Joe Burke of Prescott; six granddaughters; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Hershel Conley and Rev. Bill Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
