The 13th Annual Cars and Cycles Against Cancer event will be held Saturday morning beginning at 7 a.m. with the awards ceremony being held at 3 that afternoon.
The event is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and will be held on the east end of Memorial Drive on the Aeroplex.
There will be many classic cars and bikes from all over the Mid-South at the event for spectators and car/motorcycle aficionados to enjoy. In the past there have sometimes been over 400 different entries in a single event.
Coordinator Steve Southard said, “The weather determines the size of the show. It all depends on how good the weather is.”
"My Classic Car" host Dennis Gage will appear at the 2017 Cars and Cycles Against Cancer event for the second year in a row. Gage will be speaking during the event and will also sign autographs and take photos with car owners before awarding the “Top 20 Cars and Bikes.”
“He does a really great job. He will be speaking to the group and he’ll also be mingling with people and signing autographs,” Southard explained.
There will also be another fun event called “Valve Cover Racing” that will be sponsored by 5-Star Hydraulics. The “cars” in the competition are made from valve covers and look very similar to soap box derby racecars.
Also, the “Pancake Man”, sponsored by Raben Tire, will be giving away free pancakes from 7:30 until 9:30 Saturday morning. Afterwards, around 9:30 a.m., Gage will begin his talk with participants and spectators.
“I’d just like to remind people to come out in support of the Relay for Life and in support of the American Cancer Society. Come support the cause and lets show everyone exactly what Blytheville is all about,” Southard said.
Entrants can sign up to participate at the Relay for Life event on Friday night or by signing up during the registration period early Saturday morning.
“I want to send a special thanks to the City of Blytheville, the City of Gosnell, the Aeroplex with Barry Harrison and his team and also the Blytheville Emergency Squad,” Southard said.
The event is sponsored this year by Steve Southard/Carol Wisdom and the Cotton Classic Car Club.
