The first round of the 5A-East District tournament matched the host Blytheville Chickasaws with the second-seeded Greene County Tech Golden Eagles on Saturday. The Golden Eagles came away with a, 10-0, win in four innings.
Leading the Chickasaw offense was Chris Pugh (1-2) and Garrett Cloud (1-2).
Chickasaws head coach Randy Smith says the team competed well and their play against the Golden Eagles didn’t show that.
“We competed pretty well throughout the year,” Smith says. “ We’re better than we were. Today wasn’t really an indication of that, we didn’t play very well.”
Smith also mentioned that the Golden Eagles capitalized on their mistakes like every good team should do.
“They’ve got a good team and everything we messed up they took advantage of, which is what good teams do, but we just have to try to improve and hopefully one day try to compete in the 5A-East,” Smith said after the loss.
