Lake City Council met March 27 adopting a resolution, approving a new member to the fire department, adding a new Housing Authority Board member, purchasing property for a water tank, and hearing Mayor Jon Millign's state of the city address.
Council members present were Tommy Eakins, Harold Barker, Brenda Hutcheson, Mike George, Toby Rand and Danny Dunigan. Also present was City Clerk Linda Simpson.
The council adopted Resolution 2017-2-20, a resolution adopting policy and procedures manual of the Lake City Police Department. Chief Saffell was present to answer questions Council Members might have about the manual.
Mayor Milligan reported to council members he had attended the Riverside school board meeting and the school had agreed on a purchase price of $7,394.46 per acre for the property the city needed to build a water tank.
Council approved the purchase of one acre of land from Riverside School District in the back southwest corner on the property on 601 Catfish Drive, in Lake City, along with an easement leading to the acre at an appraisal rate of $7,394.46 per acre.
Eric Simmons was added as a fireman to the Lake City Volunteer Fire Department.
Council to approved a bid from Paragould Communications in the amount of $5,895.82 for equipment to detail the new police Explorer when it arrives. Funds will be paid from the Equipment Fund.
Lake City Housing Authority presented a letter of resignation from Board member Sue Hood. The Board made a request for Jennifer Short to fill the position.
The Council voted unanimously to add Jennifer Short to the board.
Mayor Milligan gave his State of the City address. He said the finances of the city were in good shape. The city has just completed the construction of a new park at the end of Stone Street. New growth is expected in the city with two new home additions, commercial property, sewer projects, and a new water tank. The city is working on a five year plan which will include sewer and water.
"The employees have done an outstanding job and work hard to keep the City maintained and running efficiently," Mayor Milligan said. "I appreciate each and every one, and the jobs they do."
Next council meeting will be 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 24, at City Hall.
