Julia's Rescue BBQ opened in Monette on Tuesday, March 21, with a great reception.
The barbecue trailer is set up on the lot across from the Buffalo Island Museum.
Julia Holmes is excited about opening the business and starting her second career. She is a native of Leachville and a retired nurse, having worked at St. Bernards Medical Center for 32 years.
The barbecue business was started as a fund raiser to rescue animals. Holmes would set up at festivals and other activities using part of the proceeds going to Trumann AR Pet Savers. She is involved with the group working to find homes for pets.
"We try to save dogs that are about to be euthanized from area pounds," she said.
Holmes has friends throughout the Buffalo Island and surrounding area as she grew up in Leachville, graduating from Leachville High School. She lived in Monette for 10 years, in Lake City for 15 years, and worked in Jonesboro for over 30 years.
Julia's Rescue Barbecue will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Barbecue with all of the fixings will be offered as well as fried pies.
