Emma Lou Fitzgerald
Mrs. Emma Lou Fitzgerald of Blytheville was born March 24, 1919 to Hulon and Maude Mick of Promised Land, Arkansas. Emma passed away March 25, 2017 at the Gosnell Therapy and Living at the age of 98.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.F. Fitzgerald; her parents; four brothers, Walker, Robin, John and Jerry; and two sisters, Beatrice and Sunshine.
Emma was a lifetime resident of this area and belonged to Promised Land United Methodist Church until the doors closed and then she faithfully attended the Gospel Lighthouse Church on Sunday evenings.
Emma is survived by her children, Mickey Fitzgerald (Patricia), Larry Fitzgerald (Beth), Annie Campbell and Mary Fitzgerald Knox (Ronnie); 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also, special friends, Hilda Lee, Wayne and Carolyn Omillian and caretaker Lizzie Walker.
She was active in her church plus various clubs and organizations including the United Methodist Women's Society, several Homemakers Clubs and garden clubs.
She also formed her own version of Weight Watchers called the Fat Ladies Club.
Her main interest in life was providing delightful feasts for her family and friends on holidays or anytime she could get a crowd together. Everyone talks about her wonderful meals.
She will also be remembered for her skill at gardening and putting up an array of fruits and vegetables. One of her specialties was her pear relish. Emma also loved her flowers. She used to plant tulips along the fence next to the pasture back in her farming days. She was a lady in every sense of the word with a great sense of humor.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Carney Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. with services following. Private burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at carneyfuneralhome.com.
