ARMOREL-- Only being separated by 10 miles, the Armorel Lady Tigers hosted the Blytheville Lady Chickasaws on Friday, and the 1A State Final Four finalist defeated the 5A Lady Chickasaws, 17-0.
The Lady Tigers were helped out with a two big blasts from senior Brooke Trout (two-run shot) and junior Alyssa Benefield (two-run shot) to lead to the 17-0 shutout.
The Lady Tigers had 12 runs after the first inning, which was helped out by a bases-clearing standup double by senior Madison Beal in the bottom of the first. The Lady Tigers added five more runs in the bottom of the third.
Leading the Lady Tigers offense was Emily Jo Gentry (run scored), Oliva Luttrell (2-3 with three runs scored and an RBI), Trout (2-3 with three runs scored and three RBI), Benefield (2-4 three runs and two RBIs), Katie Weld (1-2 with two runs scored), McKinley Carr (1-3 with one run scored and an RBI), Beal (1-2 with one run scored and three RBIs), Rylee Nelson (1-3 with one run scored and two RBIs).
Weld pitched a complete game and racked up six strikeouts. The Lady Tigers next game comes on Thursday, when they host blended conference opponent the East Poinsett County Warriors.
The Lady Chickasaws had six hits on the night and left six runners on the base.
The Lady Chickasaws next game well be on the road against 5A- East opponent the Greene County Tech Golden Eagles.
