GOSNELL-- Coach Jimmy Porter's Gosnell Pirates kept it interesting with Mississippi County rival, the Osceola Seminoles. The Seminoles are predicted to win the 3A state championship at the end of the season. The Pirates, however, would lose to the Seminoles, 90-80, in Gosnell on Tuesday night.

The Pirates trailed, 45-32, at the half to the Seminoles after Andy Roberts would give the ball to Rodale Jones who would hit a layup seconds before time expired.

They would go on to cut the Seminoles lead to nine several times during the fourth quarter. Brandon Partee would end the game with a steal and layup before getting fouled where he would hit the and one to bring the final score to,90-80.

The Pirates dropped their season to 9-6 overall on the season.

Leading the way in the victory for the Seminoles was Michael Caruthers with 20 points.

Tramaine Anderson scored a game-high 23 points for the Pirates in the defeat. Also contributing for the Pirates in the loss was Partee with 20 points and Trajan Donnerson with 17 points.

The Pirates next game will be at Trumann on Thursday against the Trumann Wildcats. On Friday, they will travel to Harrisburg to play the Hornets.

Osceola Junior Seminoles 61, Gosnell Junior Pirates 48

The Gosnell Junior Pirates also lost to Osceola.

The leading scorer for the Junior Seminoles was DeAnthony Poole with 22 points.

Leading the way for the Junior Pirates was JyDarian Young with a game-high 28 points. Also contributing for the Junior Pirates was Caleb Brown, Rashon Gates, and Jordan Lewis with six points a piece.

The junior Pirates next game will be at Trumann on Thursday against the Trumann Wildcats.

On Friday, January 13 they will travel to Harrisburg to play the Hornets.
