Buffalo Island Central placed three players in double figures as the Lady Mustangs rolled over Manila 53-31 in senior girls basketball action Monday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.
The Lady Mustangs broke an early 4-4 tie, going on a 12-1 run to grab a 16-5 lead. Junior guard Heather Sipes sparked the BIC surge with nine points. Tessa Pannells pitched in an inside bucket to close out the quarter, pulling Manila to within 16-7.
The Lady Lions continued to fight back in the second stanza, and closed to within three on a Hannah McQueen basket with 2:55 remaining in the half. But the Lady Mustangs fired back, outscoring Manila 9-2, capped off by Sipes' three pointer to take a 27-17 lead at the half.
BIC added to their lead in the third quarter behind Madison Nowlin, who drained back to back triples as the Lady Mustangs raced to a 39-20 advantage. Jordyn Wheeler, who scored all eight of Manila's third quarter points, drained a trey before scoring on a scoop shot to close the gap to 39-25 after three periods of play.
BIC outscored Manila 14-6 in the final frame and cruised to the victory.
Nowlin paced the Lady Mustangs with 15 points, Sipes finished with 14 while Molly Hart added 10. Brianna Lambert just missed double digits, scoring nine points, all on three pointers. Jona Carmichael and Holly Stockton tallied two points apiece while Haddyn Hurst chipped in one point. BIC finished three for five from the foul line and banged in eight treys on the night.
Wheeler topped Manila with 10 points. Jordan Tyler scored eight, McQueen netted six, Hannah Teague tallied three while Pannells and Madison Bibbs added two points each. The Lady Lions connected on seven of 12 free throws and made one three pointer.
Manila bolted to a 9-1 lead after the first quarter and went on to post a 32-16 victory in the junior high contest. The Lady Lions held an 18-6 halftime advantage and took a 21-10 lead into the fourth quarter.
Brailey Hampton scored a game high 14 points to lead Manila. Ashten Wallace and Anna Grace Adams scored six points each, Grace Wilkins tallied three, Vivian Pryor netted two points while Anna Beth Baugher chipped in one point.
Vicky Esparza led BIC with 11 points. Hannah Carle scored four while Emma Graddy tallied one point.
Manila improved to 2-1 on the year with a 49-21 victory Thursday night over Armorel at Lion gym.
The Lady Lions led 20-15 at the half before outscoring the Lady Tigers 18-2 in the third period to take a 38-17 lead into the final frame.
Bibbs led Manila with 12 points while Teague chipped in 10 more.
The Lady Lions also took the junior high game 25-22.
Riverside's Lady Rebels split two games, dropping a 51-44 decision Monday night to Bay before bouncing back with a 49-33 victory Thursday night over East Poinsett County.
Hattie Milligan led the Lady Rebels against Bay, scoring 10 points. Whitlee Layne scored a game high 19 to lead the Lady Yellowjackets while Mallory Hartley recorded a double-double, pumping in 17 points while pulling down 10 rebounds.
In the junior high contest, Riverside rolled to a 52-33 victory. Grace Ann Puckett led the Lady Rebels with 16 points while Lexi Hall added 11. Bailee Kirby scored a game high 17 points to top Bay while Olivia Ferguson chipped in 11.
Bailey Fisher led Riverside with 17 points in the Lady Rebel's victory over EPC Thursday night at Lepanto. Riverside (6-3) led 10-7 after the first break, 21-19 at the half and 31-26 after three quarters.
Kurstin Bryan and Bre Ward led the Lady Warriors with 10 points apiece.
Riverside trounced EPC 55-20 to win the junior high game, behind Puckett's 22 point performance.
