A local man was scammed out of $1,500, after attempting to purchase a vehicle online, Tuesday.

Police are investigating the theft by deception report.

The police report said during an online conversation, the victim and offender reached an agreement for him to purchase a 2004 Nissan Maxima using iTunes gift cards.

"(The victim) stated that the agreement through the online website that was used is that the buyer sends payment to the seller and the seller sends the item to the buyer to test for an established timeframe," the report said. "(The victim) stated that the individual said the vehicle was on its way to him, and that (the victim) send the payment as well."

The victim submitted the payment, but never received the vehicle. The victim told police he contacted the online site believed to be used for the transaction, but he was told they were unaware of any transaction and the vehicle was not on their roster.
