Football season will be arriving at J.W. Rea Field on Tuesday night as the Gosnell Pirates will host the 7A/6A Marion Patriots and the 5A-East Paragould Rams in a benefit game.
With Gosnell hosting bigger schools in the scrimmage game, the new head coach of the Gosnell Pirates, Brandon Barbaree, will look to his players to bring the same intensity that they do against teams like regular season opponents Pocahontas, Newport, and Osceola. " We need a higher level of competition," said Coach Barbaree.
Coach Barbaree's Pirates look to pick up where former Coach Gary Moody left off in leading the Pirates to many winning seasons in the last few years.
The Pirates will play 30 minute halves against Marion and Paragould.
With Coach Barbaree still undecided on the quarterback situation, he says that they will probably alternating series. The starters will play as much as possible, according to Coach Barbaree. "We need as much live work as we can get and with good competition from both the bigger schools in Marion and Paragould," he said.
The Pirates will host Newport in their first regular season game at J.W. Rea Field on Sept. 2.
Kickoff for the benefit game will start at 6 p.m on Tuesday night.
