Police investigated an animal cruelty case in the 4400 block of East State Highway 18 around 6:56 p.m. Friday. Police found a dead Golden Retriever attached to a cable anchored to the ground, according to the police report. The report said there was no food or water within the dog's reach. The offender told police that between 10-11 a.m. Friday, he put the dog outside to go to the bathroom, after returning home from work, then fell asleep...

Police investigated an animal cruelty case in the 4400 block of East State Highway 18 around 6:56 p.m. Friday.

Police found a dead Golden Retriever attached to a cable anchored to the ground, according to the police report.

The report said there was no food or water within the dog's reach. The offender told police that between 10-11 a.m. Friday, he put the dog outside to go to the bathroom, after returning home from work, then fell asleep.

"One of the neighbor's kids found the dog laying on the back patio of (an apartment) with blood on the ground that came out of the dog's mouth," the report said.

Police contacted animal control.
