Hershel Levelle Douglas

Hershel Levelle Douglas, 79 of Manila, passed from this life Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at the Manila Nursing Center. Born at Manila, he was the son of the late Roy and Myrtle Brown Douglas, had been a lifelong Manila resident and was a commercial fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Coleen Douglas in 2001, his sister, Sybil Virginia "V" Winstead, and a niece Nadine Winstead.

Survivors include two stepsons, Leslie Sammons of Manila and Fred Sammons of Dardanelle; a step daughter, Irene Canterbury of Newark, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Mike Colvin officiating. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are James Winstead, Floyd Winstead, Donald Sammons, Doug Rose, Todd Huckabee, and Jason Simpson. Honorary pallbearers are Ronald Sammons, Kody Winstead, Nicholas Winstead and Tristen Winstead.

The family received visitors from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
