The annual State Sales Tax Holiday is scheduled for this weekend, and several local stores are offering deals to further the back-to-school savings.

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and ending at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, the State of Arkansas will allow shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, school art supplies, school instructional materials, and clothing free of state and local sales or use tax.

All retailers are required to participate and may not charge tax on items that are legally tax-exempt during the Sales Tax Holiday.

State and local sales tax will not be collected during this 48-hour period on the sale of: clothing and footwear if the sales price is less than $100 per item; clothing accessories and equipment if the sales price is less than $50 per item; school supplies; school art supplies; and school instructional materials.

Local retailers, such as Burge's Shoe Store, Day's Clothing, Walmart and others, will mark down certain items for those doing back-to-school shopping.

Burge's currently has a series of discounts on items that will be exempt of taxes during the tax holiday, as does Day's.

Walmart will also have several items that are marked "tax exempt" with a series of balloons next to them. These include school supplies, school uniforms, and various other items.
