Willie Miranda Vernell Minton
Mrs. Willie Miranda Vernell Minton, longtime Manila area resident, passed from this life Thursday, July 21, 2016, at her home at the age of 94. Born Feb. 26, 1922, in Batesville, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Altha Wright Hicks and moved to Oklahoma with her family at the age of 4. The Hicks family returned to Arkansas in 1934 where Willie's father worked on the Brinkley farm at Victoria. She married B.C. Minton in 1938 and the couple settled in the Milligan Ridge community in 1942. Mrs. Minton was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at the Milligan Ridge Baptist Church where she loved to sing, but most of all she loved time spent with her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Minton in 1992.
Survivors include one son, Bennie Minton and wife Mary Ann of Manila; daughter-in-law, Janie Minton of Caraway;
three grandchildren, Justin Minton and wife Michell, Michael Minton and Brian Minton and wife Madonna; five great-grandchildren, David Minton and wife Katie, Kaitlin Minton, Ty Minton, Kole Minton and Paige Minton; and one great-great-granddaughter, Loreli Minton.
Funeral service was 2 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Mike Colvin officiating. Burial followed in Manila Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Robert Adams, Paul Adams, Harry Adams, Jimmy Adams, Ronald Holt and Floyd Winstead. Honorary pallbearers included Denise Clay, Charlene Winstead, Michelle McLaughlin, Charlotte Byrd and the Women's Sunday School class from Milligan Ridge Baptist Church.
The family received visitors Saturday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.
