Johnny Jones, 26, was arraigned in Blytheville District Court on a possession of a firearm by certain persons charge on Tuesday.
According to Blytheville Police Department Capt. Scott Adams, police conducted a traffic stop on a white Chrysler Sebring at the intersection of Franklin and Main Street at at approximately 12:58 a.m. Monday.
While speaking with the occupants, officers noticed the passenger, Jones, was "extremely nervous and breathing heavy, sweating and shaking," Adams said.
"Officers ordered Jones from the vehicle and searched (him) for officers' safety," Adams said. "As officers attempted to detain Jones, officers felt him tense up. Jones then attempted to run at which time officers pinned him up against the vehicle and drew their Taser."
Officers commanded Jones to stop fighting or he was going to be tased.
"Officers then observed Jones reach in his waistband and throw a silver pistol in the seat," Adams said.
An officer then drew his weapon and pointed it at Jones as he called for backup, the Criminal Investigations Division Commander added.
Other officers arrived and secured both occupants and the weapon.
Officers later discovered Jones is a parolee on active supervision and has a lengthy violent criminal history. Jones was transported to the Mississippi County Jail.
