The Mississippi County Quorum Court met Tuesday at the Osceola Courthouse and quickly dispensed with a light agenda.

The justices heard a report on the County's finances from treasurer Peggy Meatte. Meatte reported receipts for the County's portion of the 1 cent sales tax for May totaled $105,194.33, a decrease of $8,611.77 compared to May of 2015. The half-cent economic development tax receipts for May totaled $263,043.93, down $21,566.06 compared to 2015, and the half-cent hospital tax collections for May were $263,043.92.

Finance committee chairman Justice Michael White reported the County received a $100,000 mineral rights check from the State of Arkansas. All 75 counties received a similar amount. This money was placed in the county general fund.

Justices also approved a pair of ordinances. The first allowed the county to spend $7,850 of a pass through Courtroom Security grant which will be used to purchase five Automatic External Defibrillators for the County Sheriff's Department.

The second ordinance, passed unanimously on three readings, adopted an alternate seismic design standard for buildings and other structures constructed for manufacturing and industrial occupancy. This brings the County in-line with standards set by the 90th General Assembly this year.
