A local man is accused of swinging an axe at his two juvenile relatives around 3:20 a.m. Thursday in the 600 block of Rosamond.
Police arrested Herbert Brown, 35, on charges of aggravated assault on a family member (two counts) and drunk, insane and disorderly conduct.
Brown's mother told police that he was in her grandsons' room threatening them with an axe.
"I went to the room where I observed Herbert yelling at the two juvenile males while holding an axe," the reporting officer wrote. "I asked Herbert to step out of the room and talk to me about what was going on. Hebert came into the hallway with me still holding the axe. I asked him to give me the axe, which he did without incident."
The juveniles told police that they were asleep when Brown entered the room yelling at them.
"Both juveniles said Herbert swung the axe at them almost striking one of them," the report said.
Brown also allegedly "jumped at" his mother with the axe.
"It should be noted that I asked Herbert if he swung the axe at the juveniles," the report said. "He stated that he did and he 'tried to chop that (expletive) head off.'"
There were no injuries.
Police contacted the Child Abuse Hotline.
