Rebels gain 10th victory of season

Riverside upped its record to 10-2 on the season with a 4-2 victory Thursday afternoon over Armorel. The Rebels fell behind 1-0 when the Tigers scored a run in the top of the fourth, but Riverside bounced back in the bottom of the inning with a four-spot of their own to grab a 4-1 lead. Armorel scored a lone run in the top of the seventh before reliever Larry Tilley nailed down the win to gain the save.

Izzy Garcia was the hitting star for the Rebels, with two singles and a triple while driving in three runs on the day. Matthew Frasure and Cannon Smith both singled and scored runs. Dillon Turner had a base knock. Dylan Austin scored once and drove in a run while Justin Berry scored once.

Charlie McClure got the win to improve to 2-0 on the year. McClure worked 4 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and one run. McClure fanned three and walked six. Turner pitched 1 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and one run before Tilley closed the game out with one inning of shutout relief.

The Rebels began the week, dropping a 4-2 decision Monday afternoon at Walnut Ridge. The host Bobcats scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to break a 1-1 tie, and held off Riverside for the victory.

Will Weir, Drake Smith and Chase Baker all had two hits apiece for Walnut Ridge with Luke Wall picking up the win. Cannon Smith banged out three hits for the Rebels, including a double. Frasure doubled and scored a run, Chandler Tate singled, Tilley drove in a run while Hunter Rand scored once. Tilley took the loss, pitching six innings, allowing four runs and 10 hits while striking out four.

The Rebels slipped past East Poinsett County 2-1 Tuesday afternoon at Lepanto. The Warriors took an early 1-0 lead after the first inning before Riverside rallied, scoring single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to pull out the win.

Gavin Stone improved to 5-0 on the year, working seven full innings, allowing one run on four hits. Clay Malone was the tough luck loser for the Warriors, giving up just two hits and two runs on the day in going the distance.

Tilley had an RBI double for Riverside. Stone singled and scored a run while Tate also had a base hit.

Riverside returns to action hosting Bay Monday afternoon at Lake City. The Rebels take on a pair of 2A-3 conference foes, traveling to Marked Tree Tuesday before facing Marmaduke Thursday afternoon, also on the road. Riverside closes the week with a nonconference home game Friday afternoon against Brookland.
