Bobby Austin, Manila Senior Center site director, was honored Friday with a luncheon. It was a double celebration for his birthday and retirement.
Austin has been with the senior citizens for over 11 years. He delivered meals to the homebound for most of those years and served as site director for the last six months.
"I have really enjoyed working here," he said. "I will miss all of the people."
Austin said he will volunteer to drive the van for activities the seniors participate in such as Wii bowling and bean bag baseball tournaments.
The potluck luncheon was held at the senior center. Donnie Wagner prepared the barbecue and others provided the homemade desserts.
Mr. Austin's wife, Deloras, and son, Alan, were on hand for the event. Mississippi County Judge Randy Carney and Manila Mayor Wayne Wagner expressed their appreciation for the years of service Austin has given to the senior program.
Danny Cox and the Gypsy band provided entertainment offering country and gospel songs.
Carol Yarbro, on behalf of all of the seniors, presented Mr. Austin with a gift and their appreciation.
"He will be missed," Yarbro said.
Austin told the group, "It has been enjoyable working with you and for you. I appreciate every one of you and all you have done for me."
