Manila Lady Lions split four games on the softball field last week, gaining wins over Marked Tree and RIvercrest before losing to Concord and Southside.

The Lady Lions began the week, thrashing Marked Tree 16-7 Tuesday on the road. Jordyn Wheeler earned the win, going the distance, allowing only five hits. Wheeler gave up seven runs, none earned, and struck out four Lady Indians.

Wheeler also had a big day at the plate, going 3-5 which included a pair of doubles. Wheeler drove in two runs and scored three times. Taylor Hampton singled, tripled, scored twice and had three RBI. Molly Beth Couch singled, doubled and drove in three runs. Caitlin Holt went 2-4 with three RBI and a two runs scored. Jill Helton singled twice, scored twice and drove in a run. Sasha Pannells had a pair of singles and scored five runs. Lauren Woody had an RBI single while Ashley Rothwell singled and scored once. Tessa Pannells scored a run.

Manila improved to 3-0 in 3A-3 conference play with an 8-4 win over Rivercrest Friday afternoon. Wheeler got the win with seven complete innings of five-hit ball. The junior right hander gave up four runs, two earned, while striking out eight and walking only one.

Woody singled, doubled, drove in three runs and scored twice. Helton singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in two. Rothwell singled twice and scored two runs. Sasha Pannells had a pair of singles while Tessa Pannells cracked a two-run single. Wheeler clubbed a pair of singles and scored twice while Couch scored a run.

The Lady Lions fell to Concord on Saturday, 12-1. Wheeler took the loss, working five innings, allowing 12 runs, four earned. Wheeler gave up eight hits, fanned six and issued three walks. Hampton had an RBI single, Woody singled and Sasha Pannells scored a run.

Manila dropped a 9-3 decision Saturday against Southside. Wheeler pitched four innings, allowing nine runs, four earned, to take the loss. Wheeler gave up six hits, struck out five and walked three. Woody worked one shutout inning, fanning one and walking two.

Holt had a two-run double, Woody had an RBI double, Helton singled and scored a run, Couch laced a single while Hampton and Rothwell both scored one run apiece.

Manila (7-6) will return to action Monday at Corning in a 3A-3 conference matchup. The Lady Lions will host Walnut Ridge Tuesday, Highland Thursday and Gosnell Friday to close out the week.
