Hershel Johnson

Hershel Johnson, 88, of Paragould, formerly of Manila, passed from this life Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Born in Vidette, he was the son of the late Nelson and Odessa Crots Johnson and was raised in the Manila area. He had lived much of his life in Flint, Mich., where was employed by General Motors for over 30 years.Following his retirement in 1980, he returned to Manila where he enjoyed working in his yard, fishing and gardening. He had been a Paragould resident since 2008. Hershel was a member of the former New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church in Manila.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Lee Shrable, Jack Shrable, Goldman Shrable and Woodrow Shrable, and two sisters, Leucretta Ray and Marie Woodhouse.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Glenda Wilkey Johnson of the home; one son, Danny Johnson of Linden, Mich.; one daughter, Billie Britt of Cordova, Tenn.; one brother, Ray Peters of Paragould. He also leaves three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Bill Warren and Rev. Linda Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Tuesday from 12:30 until service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will include Billy Joe Warren, Ben Morgan

, Wendell Wilkey, Gage Lollar, Tony Shrable and Steven Hamilton.
