TRUMANN-The Gosnell Pirates survived a seventh inning rally and held off the host Trumann Wildcats, 5-3, in game one of a 3-4A double header Tuesday night.

The two teams entered the game tied for first in the 3-4A with 5-1 league records.

Dakota Atkinson went six and two thirds innings on the mound. Atkinson allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out four.

Ahead 5-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Trumann scored a run and had the tying run at the plate with a runner on third and two out.

Chad Wright relieved Atkinson and struck out Dylan Qualls to end the game.

Gosnell scored a run in the first, one more in the fourth and three in the sixth.

Trumann plated a run in each of the third sixth and seventh innings.

Wright (3-3, triple and 3 runs scored), Hunter Jolly (2-3, double and 2 runs scored), Peyton Thompson (1-1 with 2 RBIs), Andrew Scott (1-4 with a run scored), Cody Robison (1-3 with an RBI), Matthew Miller (1-3) and Austin Wren (1-3) led the Pirate offense.

Gosnell improves to 12-5 overall and 6-1 in the 3-4A.
