Volunteers gathered in Caraway for a roadblock Friday, Feb. 18, for the Make A Wish organization. The money raised grants wishes to ill children. Volunteers set up near the Riverside East Elementary School in Caraway.

Bo James, one of the organizers of the Caraway roadblock, said this is the first Make A Wish roadblock held in Caraway and he expressed his apprecition to everyone who helped and donated.

It was a great success with Caraway raising $14,000 thanks to the generous community and surrounding area support.

"The East elementary students got involved and they raised $838," James said.

"We had three fund raising events to help others over the last few weeks and every one of them have been successful," James said. "We had an auction Jan. 16 for Mikie Sullivan, a young man who is undergoing treatments, raising $13,000. We had the road block on Friday for Make A Wish raising $14,000. We had a dinner/silent auction on Saturday evening, Feb. 20, for Bailey Kelems, a young Caraway girl at St. Jude, raising about $7,000. That is outstanding from a community of a little more than 1,200 people. That says a lot about our community."
