Buffalo Island Central pulled out a pair of 2A-3 conference overtime victories in senior high boys basketball action last week. The Mustangs squeezed past Marmaduke 72-70 Tuesday night in a thriller on the road before easing past Marked Tree 72-67 in Friday night's Homecoming contest at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.
BIC forced six turnovers in their overtime victory Tuesday night at Marmaduke. The two teams went into the extra period tied 63-all before the Mustangs outscored their host 9-7 to escape with the victory.
Trey Depriest scorched the nets for a game high 29 points to lead BIC while Travon Cobb added 12 more. Tyler Vowell led the Greyhounds with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Andrew Church added 13 points, Lucas Dixon chipped in 12 while Corey Burks added 10 points.
In the junior high game, BIC defeated Marmaduke 44-29. Noah Teeter led the Mustangs with 15 points while Blaine Wildy pitched in 12. Ethan Bradshaw and Billy Elder scored 14 and 11 points respectively to top the Greyhounds.
Cobb produced a double-double in BIC's win over Marked Tree. The 6'1" senior pumped in 27 points and grabbed 12 boards. DePriest scored 14 while Andrew McFarlin chipped in 12. LaQuentin Miles paced the Indians with 21 points.
Marked Tree led 30-26 at the half before the Mustangs rallied to take a 43-34 lead entering the fourth quarter. The two teams were deadlocked, 54-all, after regulation. BIC outscored Marked Tree 18-13 in overtime to secure the victory.
In the junior high game, BIC slipped past Marked Tree 36-34.
BIC returns to the hard court Friday night, playing host to Rector in the final conference game of the season. It will be Senior Night for the Mustangs.
The Lady Mustangs fell to league leading Marmaduke 65-46 Monday night on the road before bouncing back to take a 60-23 victory over Marked Tree Thursday night at the MAC.
Abby Meredith pumped in 19 points, Brianna Hood scored 14 while Kelsey McCoy added 11 points and nine boards to lead the Lady Greyhounds over BIC. Heather Sipes topped the Lady Mustangs with a game high 21 points.
Marmaduke also took the junior high matchup 42-29.
Sipes blistered the nets for 23 points while pulling down 10 rebounds in BIC's 37 point shellacking over Marked Tree. Blaire Wildy chipped in 17 points and grabbed seven boards. Both Sipes and Wildy drained five three pointers apiece. Molly Hart scored five points and pulled down a game high 14 rebounds while dishing out six assists.
BIC won the junior high game 38-23. Brianna Lambert topped the Lady Mustangs with 12 points. Haddyn Hurst also had a big night, scoring 11 points while grabbing seven rebounds to go along with six steals and six assists.
The Lady Mustangs return to action Thursday night with a home game against Rector at the MAC.
