Big fourth quarter helps Marked Tree overcome Riverside 53-38

Marked Tree outscored Riverside 19-9 in the fourth quarter to break open a close game and pull away for a 53-38 victory over the Rebels Tuesday night at Lake City.

Riverside took a 16-12 lead after the first quarter behind Luke Baker's 10 first period points. The Rebels clung to a 24-21 lead at the half, but the Indians rallied in the third quarter, taking the lead for good on a LaQuentin Miles steal and layup at the 4:54 mark to give Marked Tree a 28-26 edge. Another steal and lay-up, this time by Tirek Young pushed the Indian lead to four. Markel Perry and Miles added back to back buckets, capping off a 13-0 Marked Tree run which suddenly put the visitors ahead by eight, 34-26. Jon Milligan's three point play chopped the Rebel deficit to 34-29 after three quarters.

The fourth period belonged to the Indians, who got a combined 15 points from D'Angelo Griffin and Perry. Griffin had nine points during the final frame while Perry threw in six more.

Baker led Riverside with a game high 18 points while Gavin Stone added 11. Milligan and Braden Overman scored three points apiece, Chris Sain had two while Grant Mason added one point.

Miles paced the Indians with 17 points while Perry and Griffin added 12 and 10 points respectively.

In junior high action, Riverside downed Marked Tree 34-22. Latrell Brown led the Rebels with 10 points. D.J. Bowers scored eight, Marquis Nelson had seven, Ryan Austin tallied six, Hunter Swaim netted two while Steven Stroud pitched in one point.

Tray Brown led Marked Tree with 12 points.

The Rebels traveled to Earle Wednesday night and fell to the Bulldogs 73-59. Earle led 16-15 after the first quarter, 35-32 at the half and 50-47 after three periods of play.

Stone scored a game high 29 points to lead Riverside while Sain chipped in a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Baker added 10 points.

Gerry Bohanon led the Bulldogs with 22 points.

Earle rolled in the junior high contest 43-25.

Riverside ended the week with a 79-43 victory over Crowley's Ridge Academy Friday night at Paragould. Mason led the Rebels with 14 points, Stone had 13 while Baker chipped in 11. Griffin Hogue led the Falcons with 17 points.

Riverside also took the junior high contest 54-21. Brown led the Rebels with 14 points while Bennett Austin topped CRA with 10 points.

Riverside returns to action Tuesday night with a road trip to Cross County before closing the week with a home contest Friday night at Lake City against East Poinsett County.

The Lady Rebels fell 67-42 to Earle Wednesday night. Riverside (18-10, 8-4 2A-3) was led by Bailey Fisher's 15 points.

Earle also won the junior high contest 30-18, dropping the Lady Rebels' record to 22-8 overall and 7-4 in league play.

Riverside returns to the hard court Monday night with a road trip to Cross County before closing the week Thursday night against EPC at home.
