DGM Association, the non-profit support organization for Delta Gateway Museum in dowtown Blytheville, has joined #GivingTuesday to kick-off the holiday giving season. #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.
Occurring this year, today, #GivingTuesday is an annual event held the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The campaign was created to inspire people to improve their communities by donating to local causes.
According to museum director, Leslie Hester, this is DGM Association's second year of participation in #GivingTuesday. Information about the campaign was posted on the museum's website recently and volunteers are helping spread the word.
"The emphasis is an online giving campaign, but donations do not have to be made online. They can also be mailed in or dropped off at the museum," Hester said.
Contributions will help continue the museum's work towards design and installation of permanent exhibits, and will also support the City of Blytheville's financial commitment to creating a top quality museum for the entire region.
"We are asking area citizens to support this effort with a generous donation this holiday season, and especially on Tuesday," Hester said.
The #GivingTuesday concept is a new way of linking individuals and causes to strengthen communities and encourage giving. In 2014, the third year of the movement, #GivingTuesday brought together
30,000 partners in 68 countries and registered 32.7 million impressions on Twitter, with its hashtag mentioned 698,600 times.
Since 2012, online giving on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has increased more than four-fold, based on findings by Blackbaud and the Indiana University's Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, produced in partnership with the Case Foundation.1
