Tulula I. Howell
Memorial service for former Lawton, Okla., resident Tulula I. Howell, 94, of Fayetteville, Ark., will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel in Lawton with Rev. Cliff Gravitt officiating.
Mrs. Howell died April 24, 2015, in Fayetteville. Private interment will be at Highland Cemetery, Lawton.
She was born Tulula Inez Gage Feb. 27, 1921, in Monette, and graduated from Monette High School in 1939. She was selected Miss Monette as a high school senior.
Mrs. Howell was an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in the 1940s in Little Rock. She married William A. Howell on Oct. 13, 1942, in Paragould. During William Howell's more than 26 years of military service in the U.S. Army, the couple and their family were stationed in many locations. They settled in Lawton a few years before her husband retired from the military in 1966.
In her later years, Mrs. Howell learned to quilt and quilted weekly with her friends at the Center for Creative Living in Lawton. She was a long-time member of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Shirley Howell of St. Charles, Mo., William Jr. and Dorothy Howell, Fayetteville, Ga.; daughter, Victoria Armstrong, Springdale, Ark.; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Jeff Carmack, Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Heather McElwaney, Michael Howell Jr., Rebecca Myers, Christopher Howell, Angela Howell; great-grandchildren, Travis, Tate and Robert McElwaney, Mikayla and Jaxon Myers, Conner and Madison Howell and Hayley Ludwig.
Preceding her in death were husband William Howell and son Gary Howell of Lawton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Northside Baptist Church in Lawton, the American Cancer Society or Willard Walker Hospice Home, 325 E. Longview St., Fayetteville, AR 72703.
