Doyle Victor Gilbert

Doyle Victor Gilbert, 74, of Manila, died Friday, April 24, 2015, at his home.

Born in Manila, he was the son of the late James M. and Lydia Starkey Gilbert, and had been a lifelong area resident. Following high school, Doyle served in the U.S. Army and later worked as an auto mechanic for several area companies, including Tucker's Station and Garage, Ray's Garage and Towell and Son's Auto Sales. He was a longtime member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Manila.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Davis Gilbert of Manila;

One step-son, Joe Eidson of Mount Ida;

One step-daughter, Laquietta Stewart of Marion;

Four step-grandchildren; and

A close personal friend, John Parsley of Manila.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with the Rev. J. Wayne Moore officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Manila Cemetery. The family will received visitors Sunday evening at the funeral home.
