ARMOREL -- The Armorel Tigers wrapped up the 1A-3 East conference championship with a sweep of the Ridgefield Christian Warriors Monday night at Billy Brown/Hugh Don Ashmore Field.
The Tigers slugged their way to 23-1 and 20-0 victories to complete a perfect 6-0 season in the conference.
After plating a run in the first inning, the Armorel Tiger bats came to life, scoring 13 runs in the second inning on their way to a 23-1 win in five innings over Ridgefield in game one of a conference double-header Monday night.
The Tigers scored six more in the third and three in the third. Ridgefield's lone run came courtesy of a wild pitch in the top of the fifth.
Nieko Sorrentino and Blaine McCormick combined for the five-inning no-hitter in the first game. Sorrentino struck out nine batters and walked just one in four innings of work. McCormick worked the final inning, striking out three batters.
Leading the Tigers' bats were Sorrentino (2-3 with 2 RBIs), Ashton Kennedy (2-2 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored), Seth Wyatt (1-1, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored), Payton Lannon (1-1, RBI and 3 runs scored), Travis Southern (1-1 with an RBI), Nash Winters (1-3, RBI and a run scored) and Zack Gray (1-2, RBI and 3 runs scored).
Armorel scored 15 runs in its first at bat and never looked back on the way to a 20-0 win over Ridgefield in three innings.
Logan Blankenship and Brock Elliott combined for the win for the Tigers.
Powering the Tigers' offense were Nash Winters (3-3, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored), Andrew Lannon (2-2 with 3 RBIs), Zack Gray (2-2, RBI and 2 runs scored), Payton Lannon (1-2 with a run scored) and Seth Wyatt (1-2, RBI and a run scored).
Armorel improves to 13-7 overall on the season and 6-0 in the 1A-3 East. The Tigers head to Caruthersville Tuesday.
